Adıyaman Province, with Still- in-Use magnificent Cendere Bridge, monument graves at Karakuş Hill (which is considered entrance to Mount Nemrut) , Perre Ancient City situated in the city centre and Sofraz(Üçgöz) tumuluses located in Besni district, has a high tourism potential. Adiyaman province where different beliefs and cultures live together in peace, is poised to become a center of attraction in terms of religious tourism.
Safwan of Muattal, who is one of the two known companions of the Prophet Mohammad that had lived in Turkey according to Religion Affairs Institution of Turkey (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı), rests in his tomb at the Samsat District of Adıyaman Province. Built in 1905, historically important St. Petrus and St. Paylus Church is still used by the Syriac community in Adiyaman. Furthermore, exqusitively beautiful rare floating islands located on Çat Dam have the capacity to host various events in addition to their visual beauty.
Mount Nemrut which is known as 8th wonder of the World according to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list, is located over East Taurus Mountains at the height of 2150m. King of Commagene, Antiochus had a temple and tomb tumulus built by stone masonry on the top of the mountain and put huge statues of himself, lions, and eagles. Mount Nemrut is 86 km away from Adıyaman and 51 km away from Kahta district.
It is understood from the Inscriptions of King Antiochos I, that Arsameia was built in the first quarter of the Second Century BC, by the order of Arsemez (ancestor of Commagene) at the east of Kahta River, facing the Old Kahta Castle . It was the summer capital and the administrative centre of the Kingdom.On the east ceremony way an embossed relief of Mithradates, above the rite platform , displays Herakles shaking hands with Mithradates. In front of the rite platform is an inscription in Greek known as the biggest inscription found in Anatolia. A tunnel beginning at the front of the inscription deep in to 158 meter and also at the west of the inscription a similar rocky vestibule exists. Tomb temple and Palace of Mithradates Callinichos take place on the platform. Arsameia ruins are 60 km to Adıyaman.
This anchient city was one of the 5 biggest cities of Commagene Kingdom. There is Necropol which includes fortification walls, almost 200 rock-cut tombs and a fountain which is still being used by citizens. Perre Ancient city is located at Orenli district that 5 km away from Adıyaman.
Palanlı Cave is located 10 km West of Adıyaman and it belongs to Paleolithic period. On the wall of the cave a deer motive, which is made by simple counter lines, is still noticeable. Especially the deep valley where the cave takes place is a unique part of nature.
DERIK (HEROON) CASTLE
It’s located in an area between two hills at the height of 125m, in Çatlıbahçe, Sincik. There are temple, holy Temenos ruins and two symmetrical hercons.
TURUŞ ROCK TOMBS
Turuş Rock Tombs dated at Roman Period are placed 40 kilometres from Adıyaman city centre and one kilometre west of Adıyaman-Şanlıurfa Highway. Since the tombs were built through engraving the main rock from the surface to the underground, one can reach the entrance of the tombs through 10-13 steps. In some tombs there are various figures embossed on the walls and entrences of gates.
MAL PINAR ROCK TOMB
It’s a tablet that has 18x85 sizes and located on the rock which is at left of Mal Pınar spring at Göksu Valley, Center of Adıyaman ( Durak Village).
HAYDARAN ROCK TOMBS
Haydaran Rock Tombs are located 17 kilometres from Adıyaman, in Taşgedik village. There are rock tombs and embossed relief of God of Sun Hellias shaking hands with King Antiochos .
The castle is located at the centrum of Adıyaman, on a mound at height of 25m. The surroundings of the castle were later inhabited, the castle remaining as the "core" of the settlement and given the name "Hisn’i Mansur" meaning "the Castle of Mansur."
Yenikale is located nearby Karahisar Village which is 60 km to Adıyaman. It was built by the Commagenes and used together with Arsemia. In the castle, there are bazaar, mosque, dungeon, water canals, ruins of pigeon loft and inscriptions. A water canal flawing from the castle down through to Nymphois was bound to Arsemia by a tunnel.
The castle is located in the West shore of Euphrates (Fırat), 85 km to Adıyaman’s Kahta district. It was built at Roman period and also used during Seljuk and Ottoman period by adding walls, castle Gates and vaulted structures.
Besni Castle was built at Hittites period and added mosque, hammam and bridge during Ottoman period. It’s located 50 km away from Adıyaman and 1 km to Besni.
Ulu Mosque which was built 1137-1522 AD by Dulkadir Principality is located in the center of Adıyaman. According to inscription written on the mosque, it was restorated and had current style at 1863.
This mosque was built at 1550 by Hacı Abdulgani. Ashlar was used to build mosque’s Wall.
It’s located at Eskisaray district of Adıyaman and it was built by Ibrahim Pasha at 1735.
According to inscription of the mosque, the building year is 1768. At 1923 the mosque was rebuilt by Hacı Mehmet Ali.
Location of this mosque is at Yenipınar district. It was built at 1720 by Hacı Mehmet Atlı as it’s written at its inscription.
