According to TUİK records in 2013, there are 25 facilities with Tourism Investment Certificate, 46 facilities with Tourism Facility Certificate, and 62 Municipality Certified Facilities in TRC1 Region. In these 133 facilities, there are 7.347 rooms and 14.543 beds.
The number of foreign visitors in 2014 is 489.969. Syria, Iran, Germany, Georgia, England and France are among the leading countries in the distribution of foreign visitors.
The number of overnight stay in 2014 is 1.070.262. Therefore, average duration of stay is approximately 1,5 days and the occupancy rate is 32,2% in TRC1 Region.
TRC1 Region has a rich potential especially in terms of culture and faith tourism. For example, Commagene Ruins at Mount Nemrut in Adıyaman has been listed as a World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. Moreover, Zeugma Archeological Mosaics Site and Yesemek Open Air Museum in Gaziantep has been nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In Turkey Tourism Strategy 2023, TRC1 Region has been included in one of the thematic regions, namely GAP Culture and Tourism Development Region. According to the same strategy paper, Gaziantep has been included in one of the tourism development corridors, namely Faith Tourism Corridor.
Apart from culture and faith tourism, TRC1 Region carries a significant potential in gastronomical tourism, eco-tourism etc. Furthermore, Gaziantep is an important attraction center in terms of health tourism.
