Agriculture

70% of Adıyaman’s economy is based on agriculture. Working rate in agriculture sector is around 60%.  252 096 hectares ie 33% of Adiyaman soil is agricultural land. 80.45% section of these lands are utilized for dry farming and the rest is irrigated. Cereals, industrial plants and pulses constitutes 84.2%, 10.4% ,4.4% of field crops, respectively.  The rest of field crops consists of oil seeds and tubers of the plant.

 

The most widely grown fruits in the province of Adiyaman are grape (63 499 tonnes), pistachios (11 2769, pomegranate (3,230), and mulberry (1 477 tonnes) respectively. Whereas the most widely grown vegetables are  watermelon (22 307), tomatoes (20 559), and cucumber (17 068 tonnes) respectively.

 

An important part of Adiyaman territory is surrounded by Ataturk Dam which in turn results in important potential for agricultural diversity.

 

In Adiyaman Province and Districts there some project ideas and important potentials as below:

- Modern vegetable gardens

- Rose, cherry, fig, dwarf apple, goji berry growing

- Greenhouse and mushroom cultivation

- Developing  greenhouse, viticulture, pomegranate, olive growing in Kâhta

- Beekeeping activities in the district of Tut

- Drip irrigation and organic farming activities in the district of Tut

- Organic farming and grapes cultivation in districts of  Besni and Gölbaşı

- Ecological vineyards and almond breeding

- Seedling production enterprises

 

Animal husbandry has been developing day by day in Adıyaman province. There are 64 agricultural cooperatives and 5 farmer associations as farmer organizations in the province. In the province of Adiyaman, new sheep or goats and cattle raising enterprises; silkworm, quail, trout, Saanen goat farming, bee-keeping activities, integrated chicken production facilities, breeding cattle production facilities,  fish feed factory, egg poultry may well be considered as new areas of investment.

 

New trout production facility investments as well as  natural trout production in Ataturk Dam and Reservoir located in the province of Adiyaman makes the area even more attractive.

Beekeeping

Turkey is located junction point of the Asia, the Europe and the Africa and this advantages of its location bring on rich climate ranges and habitat. Turkey has 75% of world honeyed flowers flora and also Adıyaman province has various honeyed flowers as Turkey. Especially Kekik and Geven flowers give flavour to honey because of the endemic flowers in the region. As seen the figure 1, each counties of Adıyaman product honey.
